$230 Million WazirX Hack: Hacker Uses Tornado Cash to Transfer Funds

A recent development in the $230 million WazirX hack has raised concerns among investors and authorities: the hacker has started using Tornado Cash to transfer funds, making it more challenging for law enforcement to track down the stolen money.

Recent transactions indicate that the hacker transferred almost $4 million worth of ether (ETH) through 16 separate transactions on the Ethereum network to a Tornado Cash router. The address, which holds essentially $155 million dollars in various tokens, is believed to be under the control of the individual who controlled the content.

A majority of these tokenized values, totaling over $150 million, are in thether. WazirX’s total reserves were reportedly over 45% from the stolen funds, which made it highly unlikely that customers would receive full compensation.

The hack, believed to be carried out by North Korean hacking group Lazarus, has left the exchange in a precarious financial situation and has led to reorganization of its trading operations. If customers are successful, they could receive 55% to 57 percent of their money back, leaving them with significant losses.

The hacker’s use of Tornado Cash makes it more challenging for law enforcement agencies to trace the stolen funds. Tornado Cash is a decentralized crypto mixer that allows users to hide their identities and transaction histories by pooling and mixing funds together.

The WazirX hack, which is one of the most significant in recent history, has caused shockwaves in the cryptocurrency community. After the hack, WazirX promised to improve its security measures, but the damage done is already apparent.

The question that has emerged as a significant concern is how an individual could pilfer substantial amounts of money from reputable exchanges like Wazrx. Although there are still questions to be answered, it seems evident that the hackers exploited security flaws in Wairox.

The incident highlights the importance of ensuring security in the cryptocurrency industry. As the WazirX hack continues to drag on, law enforcement is working to track down the stolen funds and hold those responsible accountable. However, the hacker’s use of Tornado Cash has made the task more difficult.

The incident has prompted the cryptocurrency community to take a more proactive approach in terms of building stronger relationships between exchanges, law enforcement, and the general public to prevent similar attacks in the future.

Meanwhile, WazirX users are being left to deal with the aftermath, hoping for some compensation. The scandal has raised concerns about the long-term sustainability of online exchange platforms and whether stricter regulations are necessary to safeguard customer funds.

The WazirX hack is a clear example of the need to prioritize security and transparency as the cryptocurrency industry continues to evolve.
